At Park Avenue Honda, we believe that our actions reflect our commitment to the environment. Every gesture counts: recycling paper and cardboard, printing only when necessary, using energy-saving light bulbs, safely disposing of residual materials such as paint, are only a few examples of our efforts.

Honda is the undisputed leader in terms of using environment–friendly innovations and technologies. The Alliston plant was one of the first Honda plants to obtain ISO 14001 certification, and recycles 99% of its production waste; the first Honda plant to do so in North America.

Honda has the distinction of being the first automaker to offer vehicles meeting stringent LEV (low emission vehicle) standards in Canada, and the first to launch Tier 2 Bin 5 certified vehicles (2002 models).

In 1997, Honda introduced the ZLEV, the first zero-emission vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine using non-polluting gas. A year later, Honda began producing the Civic GX, using natural gas, which was recognized by the EPA as the vehicle with the cleanest internal combustion engine in the world.
Honda was also the first automaker to introduce hybrid gas-electricity technology to the North American market with the Honda Insight in December 1999, followed by the first real mass-produced hybrid vehicle, the Civic Hybrid, in March 2002.

Honda’s long-term commitment to the development of environmental technologies had reached a new high with the 2006 Civic Hybrid. Winner of the World Car of the Year Award for greenest car, the Civic Hybrid has the most fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly gasoline powered engine of all time.
In 2007, Honda was named the Greenest Automaker by the Union of Concerned Scientists for the fourth consecutive year.
